Williams Travels to Guatemala with Engineers Without Borders
In early January of 2010, Todd Williams traveled to Nahualate, Guatemala along with a small group of students and faculty from Missouri University of Science and technology, to help bring drinking water to a community of 2,000. He is currently acting as a professional mentor for the Guatemala Engineers Without Borders team from MS&T, who is designing a water distribution system for the village of Nahualate. The purpose of the trip was to gather survey data and perform water quality testing. The surveying allowed for verification of their preliminary designs and will also be used to complete the design of a water distribution system to serve the entire community. The team also met with the community to discuss any concerns they may have about how the project would proceed.
The team is now planning the stages of construction and completing the final designs. The next step is to finish fundraising for the project that will include an elevated steel tank and over six kilometers of PVC distribution pipe.
